There is an old Jewish joke used to describe chutzpah — a yiddish word for that attitude of mind that is part daring, part crazy, part incredible. The joke goes like this:
A Jewish young man is brought before the elders on charges that he murdered his father and his mother. He is found guilty and faces a severe sentence. He then demands clemency on the grounds that he is an orphan.
That is chutzpah.
